Blue Butterfly Elixir Recipe 🦋

I've always been drawn to herbalism and potion-making. I love supporting my wellness using things that grow in nature, especially when imbued with magical intentions. I recently became intrigued by kava and blue lotus flower because I learned they had calming properties. Coincidentally, when I was on the phone with my sister she mentioned that she had tried a calming blue lotus tea while on a picnic date. We concocted it together at Thanksgiving and I really enjoyed it, so she sent me the ingredients for Christmas. I've since put together this recipe for you so you can try it too. I hope you enjoy it!

Flavor Profile: The soothing notes of kava, coupled with the subtle earthiness of blue lotus, are balanced by the sweet undertones of butterfly pea. A hint of citrus brightens the elixir. If you choose to add them, whispers of mint and warmth from the ginger add complexity.

Wellness: Blue lotus is revered for its calming properties, promoting a sense of tranquility. Butterfly pea flower is rich in antioxidants, offering a boost of wellness, while kava extract, known for its relaxation-inducing qualities, weaves a sense of gentle euphoria.

Ritual: Embrace the calming effects of this blue lotus-kava partnership by setting an intention for peace and calm. Visualize an ornate treasure chest hovering before you. Place any fears, worries, or doubts inside this velvet-lined chest, knowing they will be held safely for you. Close and lock the chest, and wave goodbye with gratitude as your angels and guides carry it away. Know that these worries will be cared for by your angels, as you take a break from these stressful matters. If worries creep in, remind them they are with your angels while you enjoy your elixir — now is not the time for stress.

As you create your elixir, let the process be a moving prayer. Practice mindfulness and imbue intentions into your actions. Watch as the butterfly pea turns from deep blue to purple when citrus is added (I did say you were making a potion!) When your tea is ready, stir clockwise or hold your hands over the cup while sending healing energy into the mixture. Say a prayer or spell out loud or in your mind. Ask that this elixir delivers the energy you most need at this moment. As you sip on your elixir, feel the calming energy soothe and support you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon blue lotus flower petals

  • 1 teaspoon butterfly pea flowers

  • 1 teaspoon kava extract

  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup

  • 2 cups hot water

  • 1 lemon wedge

Instructions:

1. Boil 2 cups of water and let it cool for a minute.

2. In a teapot or infuser, combine the blue lotus flower petals and butterfly pea flowers.

3. Pour the hot water over the flowers in the teapot.

4. Let the flowers steep for about 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse into the water.

5. Add the kava extract to the teapot and stir gently.

6. If you prefer a sweeter taste, add sweetener to the tea and stir until it dissolves.

7. Strain the tea to remove the flower petals, leaving you with a vibrant blue tea.

8. Pour the tea into your favorite mug and enjoy the calming and unique flavors of blue lotus, butterfly pea, and kava.

9. Add a lemon wedge if you choose, and notice how the color turns from deep blue to purple.

Optional Additions:

1. Ginger: Add a small slice of fresh ginger to the tea for a subtle spiciness. Ginger can provide a warming sensation that complements the overall soothing nature of the drink and boosts the immune system. This is especially helpful during winter seasons.

2. Mint: Fresh mint leaves can add a cool and invigorating touch to your tea. It pairs well with the floral and earthy notes of the blue lotus and butterfly pea. This can be a refreshing addition in the summertime. You may also make an iced version of this elixir on a hot day.

3. Cinnamon Stick: A cinnamon stick can contribute a warm and slightly sweet flavor to the tea. It pairs well with the other ingredients, creating a comforting and aromatic blend. This is a fun alteration during the holidays.

4. Vanilla Extract: A drop of vanilla extract can add a hint of sweetness and depth to the tea. Be cautious not to use too much, as the flavors should remain balanced.

5. Coconut Milk: If you enjoy creaminess in your tea, consider adding a splash of coconut milk. This can add a smooth texture and a subtle tropical note. You may need to omit the lemon with this version to prevent the milk from curdling.

6. Chamomile Flowers: For an extra calming effect, you can include a few chamomile flowers or a homemade chamomile syrup. Chamomile has a mild, apple-like flavor that complements the other floral notes.

Sending blessings and calming energy your way,
